3 Major Differences Between Renewable Energy and Non-renewable Energy

Green energy or clean energy are alternative ways to describe renewable energy. It is obvious that the adoption of this energy resource is of the utmost urgency in our ever-evolving world. In order to understand its value, you need to understand the difference between renewable energy and non-renewable energy.

Green energy or clean energy are alternative ways to describe renewable energy. It is obvious that the adoption of this energy resource is of the utmost urgency in our ever-evolving world. In order to understand its value, you need to understand the difference between renewable energy and non-renewable energy.

In this post we will share some of the differences between them;

What are renewable energy sources?

Renewable resources can be replenished immediately after depletion. Renewable energy resources can be consumed over time and not get exhausted. Examples of renewable energy resources include solar energy which is derived from sunlight, wind energy, geothermal energy, tidal energy, etc.

Of all these examples, solar energy is the most convenient. This is due to the rise of innovation in solar panels and solar charge controllers.

What are Non-Renewable Energy Resources?

Non-renewable resources are those that cannot be immediately replaced upon depletion. Some examples of non-renewable energy resources include petroleum, natural gas, coal, etc.

Differences between renewable energy and non-renewable energy

Here are some of the primary distinctions between renewable and non-renewable energy:

Environmental Impact

Renewable energy is a clean energy source with minimal negative on the planet. For example, solar energy converts photons incident on panels into electrical energy with the help of the sun's rays.

In the same way, wind energy is generated through rotating turbines that convert mechanical energy into electricity. It can be seen that both of these sources of energy are harmless, and thus have no negative impact on the environment.

Non-renewable resources, however, have a larger carbon footprint due to the carbon content of most fossil fuels. When they are burned, they release tons of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.

Cost

Renewable energy remains the surest form of energy for a sustainable world, though the initial cost of investment is high when compared to non-renewable energy. However, the return on investment is higher because even if renewable energy has a high initial installation cost, the savings and sustainability it offers are unmatched when compared to non-renewable sources.

Time to Replenish

Non-renewable resources can take thousands of years to replenish. While renewable energy is immediately replenishable.

The abundant availability of sunlight, air, and water throughout nature is what makes renewable energy so appealing.

So, there you have it: the primary distinctions between renewable and non-renewable energy.
